Central Government – ERDAS Users

The use of ERDAS software extends throughout central government agencies with a huge variety of products and modules embedded into geographic data management and map production workflows.

ERDAS Desktop Applications
Scottish Natural Heritage are currently undertaking the monitoring of protected heathland and are able to utilise the hyperspectral analysis tools that make ERDAS IMAGINE so invaluable when undertaking land cover mapping and land classification work.

British Antarctic Survey have been undertaking the referencing and digital terrain editing to reference and orthorectify a large aerial imagery dataset in this most sensitive and important area of outstanding natural beauty and wilderness. LPS Core along with the Automatic Terrain Editor and Terrain Editor modules have been invaluable in speeding up the processing and preparation of the imagery and height data.

ERDAS Enterprise Solutions
ERDAS Image Web Server is utilised extensively within government agencies wanting to deliver gigabytes of aerial imagery and mapping data rapidly on limited networks for use in GIS and CAD software packages. Clients include Scottish Executive, Forestry Commission, National Assembly for Wales, British Geological Survey and Natural England, all representing the different geographical sections of the UK with similar requirements. As aerial imagery becomes more plentiful and higher resolution, the challenges of data storage and imagery delivery have been met with ERDAS Image Web Server's unique ECW streaming delivery.

ERDAS and INSPIRE
Standards-based Solutions
Increasingly, earth-based information is being used to drive decisions in large organisations responsible for environment protection. These organisations face a growing need for innovative, standardised geospatial data management solutions. When enhanced with Open Geospatial Consortium and International Organisation for Standardisation (OGC/ISO) interoperability, these solutions contribute to open and extensible domain systems. In this regard, ERDAS maintains a strong commitment to international OGC/ISO standard bodies and Sterling as a lead consultant is well placed to support central government INSPIRE requirements.
