Local Government

In local authorities the use of remote sensed imagery for projects include: environment impact assessment, habitat analysis, urban planning, flood risk assessment, copyright-free mapping.

ERDAS IMAGINE software provides the tools to interoperate aerial imagery, near infrared and satellite data for a multitude of projects requirements. However it is always important to emphasise that the single biggest reason local governments have used remote sensing imagery is to establish change detection.

The constantly evolving urban, semi-urban and rural landscape in the UK can be best illustrated through the interpretation and presentation of aerial imagery. A growing population on our island is constantly putting pressure on land use, whether it is for new housing, spreading industrial requirements, pressures of agricultural management or even new communications links. The ability to remotely assess sites, areas and even the country as a whole means that decisions can be made in a cost-effective manner, planning can be undertaken with due care and attention and implementation.
